Welcome to MISSION, the digital newsletter for members and friends of Regnum Christi. Advent is that special time of year when we prepare for the arrival of Our Lord. And December is the time each year when the Legion of Christ welcomes news priests to the congregation in ordinations ceremonies in Rome. This year, 36 men received Holy Orders. I think you will enjoy the stories below; you might was to explore the special ordinations website to learn more about this remarkable group of men.
Cardinal Pietro Parolin ordains 36 Legionaries of Christ
Rome, December 10th 2016.– Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of His Holiness, ordained 36 legionaries of Christ to the priesthood in the Basilica of St. John Lateran. More than 3,000 people including family members, friends, fellow seminarians and superiors attended. Fr Eduardo Robles-Gil LC, General Director of the Legionaries of Christ and the Regnum Christi Movement, presented the candidates for priestly ordination.
Mary is our model ‘despite’ the Immaculate Conception
St. John Paul II, in his book, Gift and Mystery, tells us of a spiritual discovery he made: “Mary leads us to Christ, but Christ also leads us to Mary.” Sometimes going to Mary isn’t easy. She never sinned, how could she ‘get’ us? Making things more complicated is the Medieval idea – based on very little Bible references – of how vast Adam’s and Eve’s intelligence and will would have been above ours, because she was not hampered by Original Sin. So Mary seems one more step distant from ‘getting’ us, with almost angelic abilities now.
A day of friendship, prayer and communion among Regnum Christi’s General Committee and the Focolare’s General Council. The discussion focused on updating Charisms in front of the challenges of the times and on the evangelization of the culture.
Fr Lucio Boccacci LC was ordained a priest this month, the culmination of more than a decade of academic and apostolic preparation. He also is publishing the first two of several “Quickbooks” that explore Jesus as a boy, an unusual topic that has puzzled scholars for centuries.
Mission Youth has formed me to better fulfill leadership roles in the Movement. Truth is, that no matter how many courses you take and how many mentors you have, there are experiences that mark you and make you into the person that you are. They move you past theory into reality. Haiti missions have been just that for me.
God chose it for himself. Jesus could have been born from an olive tree, floated down from heaven or simply appeared on the public scene at the age of 30 and skipped the formality of being raised in a family with both a mom and a dad. God is all wise, he knows all the options and he always chooses the best one. God chose family life with Mary as his mother and Joseph as his father.
Sometimes the greatest treasures are hidden in plain sight. Take Brother Thomas. A few days ago I had bought a mini poinsettia for the statue of Mary in our chapel. After a few days, it started to wilt.
We finally took our family picture. So although the year is well underway, I´d like to introduce my community: also known as the Consecrated Women in the studies stage of formation. Including our three formators, we are a big happy family of sixteen, with six nationalities.
